Abstract
The session will unfold in three distinct segments. Initially, spanning approximately 40 minutes, the focus will be on delving into key research papers centered around the philosophy and ethics of AI. Federica Russo will kick off the discourse by presenting her recent proposal for an ethics-cum-epistemology of AI. Subsequently, Alex Campolo and Katia Schwerzmann will delve into their research on alignment within the ethics of machine learning. Transitioning from this foundation, the second part will feature a 20-minute semi-structured conversation with Emma Ruttkamp-Bloem. The discussion will revolve around AI governance, critically examining the extent to which philosophical insights, as discussed earlier, can effectively shape policy recommendations for responsible AI. In the concluding segment, the last 30 minutes will be dedicated to a comprehensive discussion involving the online audience. This open forum aims to foster a collective exploration of ideas and perspectives on the intricate interplay between philosophy, ethics, and the practical governance of AI.
